This page sets out an estimate of our fees generally and how we charge. For a better breakdown or estimate of fees, please see the individual pages relating to the relevant work i.e. conveyancing see the property page.
We feel that clarity and transparency is the best way of giving the client a realistic expectation of the cost of work which we carry out – we feel this transparency is needed when discussing, what can be, significant sums of money.
We are conscious that our clients require the best service at the best price. Being solicitors, we are professionally qualified persons with at least 6 years training and, here at Carreg Law, are entirely independent of other businesses and business interests.
We are highly regulated and insured through a professional indemnity insurer.
We feel that clients want to know generally what our costs are for other matters and so we have prepared this leaflet setting out what our fees are.
All our solicitors are fully qualified professionals and experts in their field of law. If work is carried out on an hourly rate, then our solicitors charge £200 per hour plus VAT. We offer a discount to charities and local community groups.
Most of our work is fixed fee. Only very rarely do we need to change a fee once it has been fixed – and only when the type of work that is being carried out changes dramatically from the first instructions. If work is carried out for work not included within the fixed fee, then usually our hourly rate will be charged.
We offer a consultation service whereby the first 30 minutes is charged at £50 plus VAT (unless stated otherwise in our fee leaflet).
We charge £50 plus VAT for certifying identification documentation for non-clients. There are no charges for certifying ID for existing clients.
We do not pay referral or introducer fees. We are not connected to any bank, estate agent, building society, pension company or supermarket. We are entirely independent.
We charge an admin fee for electronic bank transfers of £30 plus VAT. We are ourselves charged a fee for making bank transfers, hence having to pass this fee on. We do not charge for cheques nor for receiving cash.
We will endeavour to notify you beforehand of any disbursements such as court fees, Land Registry fees or searches that may be payable.
We always ask that clients bring with them identification documentation such as passport, driving licence, utility or bank statements or council tax bill to their first appointment so that we can verify the identification in accordance with the Money Laundering Regulations.
